The Beagle Channel is a strait or maritime passage between Argentina and Chile located south of the province of Tierra del Fuego, specifically in the city of Ushuaia. The average width of the Beagle Channel is 2 nautical miles and has two minimum narrows: 3.5 and 7.5 cables. The greatest depths are in the western area. In the middle part (in front of the Ushuaia Bay) is approximately 200 meters.

Throughout its extension it has several islands or islets. On the Argentine side are Redonda, Bridges, Estorbo, Gable, Becasses, Yunque and Martillo.

Its origin is due to the last phases of the Quaternary glaciations, the result of the glacial advance that ended in the Cordillera de Darwin, advancing through the longitudinal valley. Its transversal profile in the shape of a letter "U" and the presence of lateral moraines and rocky islands, polished by the action of the ice, stand out.
