Can you imagine discovering the city, Tierra del Fuego National Park, the Beagle Channel, and the border with Chile all in a single flight? The 30-minute airplane flight over Ushuaia offers one of the most complete aerial experiences for seeing the End of the World from a whole new perspective.
During the flight, we’ll head west over some of the most representative landscapes surrounding Ushuaia, such as Golondrina Bay, Mount Susana, and the Pipo River Valley, until reaching Tierra del Fuego National Park, the only national park in Argentina where forest, mountains, and sea come together in one place. From the air, you’ll be able to appreciate well-known sites such as Ensenada Zaratiegui, Lapataia Bay, Laguna Negra, Laguna Verde, and Lake Roca / Acigami.
The experience also takes you to Hito XXVI, where you’ll be able to see a glacier in Yendegaia Bay, already within Chilean territory. From there, heading east, the view opens up over some of the most representative landscapes on the other side of the channel, such as Hoste Island, the Murray Channel, Navarino Island, Puerto Navarino, and Puerto Williams.
In addition, we’ll fly over some of the most iconic points featured on Ushuaia’s boat tours, such as Bird Island, Sea Lion Island, the Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse, and the Estancia Túnel area. On the return, you’ll enjoy a wide panoramic view of Ushuaia, completing an aerial experience that shows you the city and its surroundings from an exclusive perspective.
This 30-minute airplane flight over Ushuaia is an experience designed so you don’t come away with just a panoramic view of Ushuaia, but with the feeling of having seen from the air a much larger and more surprising part of the End of the World.
1. We’ll be waiting for you at the Ushuaia Aeroclub
The experience begins at the Ushuaia Aeroclub, the meeting point where the airplane flight begins. There, our team will welcome you and give you a brief safety briefing before the flight, so you can learn the details, relax, and make the most of every minute of this experience in the air.
2. You take off with unparalleled panoramic views of Ushuaia
As soon as the plane takes off, one of the most special sensations of this experience begins: seeing Ushuaia from the air. From your seat, you’ll watch how the city unfolds alongside the Beagle Channel and the Andes Mountains, while below you appear the Ushuaia International Airport, Golondrina Bay, Mount Susana, and the Pipo River Valley, some of the landscapes that accompany this first part of the flight and begin to show you the End of the World from a completely different perspective.
3. You fly over iconic sites in Tierra del Fuego National Park
The plane flies into Tierra del Fuego National Park, the only national park in Argentina where forest, mountains, and sea come together in the same setting. From the air, you’ll first recognize Ensenada Zaratiegui, opening onto the Beagle Channel, with Redonda Island in front and the famous End of the World post office. Farther ahead, Lapataia Bay comes into view, the point where National Route 3 ends and one of Ushuaia’s most symbolic places because of the reference that links the southern end of the continent with Alaska.
You’ll also see Laguna Negra, known for the dark tone of its waters, shaped by the peat bogs that surround it, and Laguna Verde, easy to recognize by the color that gives it its name. This part of the flight ends with Lake Roca / Acigami, a binational lake of glacial origin shared with Chile, which stands out from the air for its vast size and the forest-and-mountain landscape that surrounds it.
4. You’ll fly over Hito XXVI and see Yendegaia Bay
The plane reaches Hito XXVI, one of the points that mark the international border with Chile in this southern sector of Tierra del Fuego. From the air, this part of the flight offers a very special perspective because you not only continue discovering the landscape of the National Park, but also begin to appreciate the border dimension of this southern region.
From your seat, you’ll enjoy the view toward Yendegaia Bay, already in Chilean territory, and you’ll be able to make out its glacier in the background, in a view that expands the scope of the experience even further.
5. You’ll discover the other side of the Beagle Channel
We leave Tierra del Fuego National Park behind and head toward the Beagle Channel, then continue east, where the flight will reveal the other shore of the channel and some of the most representative landscapes on the Chilean side.
From the air, you’ll be able to distinguish Hoste Island, the Murray Channel —which separates Hoste from Navarino Island—, Navarino Island, and Puerto Navarino along the coast. You’ll also be able to recognize the coastal road that connects Puerto Navarino with Puerto Williams, adding a much broader perspective of this southern region.
6. Our iconic landmarks of the Beagle Channel
As we begin the return journey, the plane once again offers you a wide view of the Beagle Channel. From above, you’ll recognize some of the best-known places featured on boat tours in Ushuaia, such as Bird Island, known for the presence of cormorants, skuas, gulls, and petrels, and Sea Lion Island, one of the classic spots to observe South American sea lions and South American fur seals in these southern waters.
You’ll also see the Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse, the wrongly named “Lighthouse at the End of the World”, one of the most recognizable images of Ushuaia, as well as the Estancia Túnel area, thus completing some of the most beautiful landscapes of the flight before the return to Ushuaia.
7. You end your experience with one last panoramic view of Ushuaia
It’s time to bring this experience to a close and, before landing, you’ll enjoy one last panoramic view of Ushuaia from the air. The city, the bay, and the mountains come back into view beneath the plane, giving the end of the flight a complete image of the End of the World.
A few minutes later, we land again at the Ushuaia Aeroclub, bringing to a close a flight that allowed you to discover from the air the Tierra del Fuego National Park, the Beagle Channel, and the border with Chile in a single experience.
