🌸🚙 Unmissable Sunset 4×4 Lakes Adventure: an afternoon toward Ushuaia’s great lakes with lunch included

Do you want to make the most of the afternoon discovering the great lakes of Tierra del Fuego and enjoying a 4×4 adventure in Ushuaia? Unmissable Sunset 4×4 Lakes Adventure combines Lake Escondido, Lake Fagnano, off-road adventure, Siberian husky dogs, and gastronomy in one experience, enjoying these landscapes during the final hours of the day.

Along National Route No. 3, heading north across the island, we’ll make our first stop at the Carbajal Valley Viewpoint to discover one of the great glacial valleys surrounding Ushuaia. We’ll also visit a Siberian husky breeding center, where the famous dogs will be waiting for you to spend some time with them, pet them, and take the sweetest photos.

And before continuing toward the great lakes, you’ll enjoy a full lunch at Villa Las Cotorras, a historic winter center in Ushuaia, with options such as the classic all-you-can-eat Fuegian lamb cooked on a spit or homemade pasta, accompanied by fresh salads, one drink, dessert, and the famous Café del Mono.

With your energy recharged, it’s time to cross the Andes through Garibaldi Pass, the only trans-Andean pass in Tierra del Fuego. From its viewpoint, you’ll be able to take in one of Ushuaia’s most sought-after views: Lake Escondido nestled among the mountains and the immense Lake Fagnano in the distance.

And of course, we can’t miss the most adventurous part, which will give us a moment of pure adrenaline: in the Bombilla Nature Reserve, the 4×4 off-road adventure begins, crossing mud, forest, and trails where the experience of our drivers makes all the difference, until we reach the shore of Lake Fagnano. Surrounded by this incredible landscape, we’ll enjoy a picada (Argentinian cold cuts platter) with drinks in front of one of the largest lakes in Argentina, with time to walk along the shore, take photos, and enjoy the final hours of the afternoon before returning to Ushuaia.

The Unmissable Sunset 4×4 Lakes Adventure lets you make the most of your afternoon with an experience that has it all: huskies, gastronomy, crossing the Andes, great lakes, and off-road adventure, with a different schedule that lets you fit even more into your day in Ushuaia.

YOUR DAY, STEP-BY-STEP:

1. The adventure starts right at your doorstep

We pick you up directly from your accommodation in Ushuaia so that from the start you feel a different day beginning, as we travel National Route No. 3 towards the north of the Big Island of Tierra del Fuego. The road itself is part of the experience: mountain curves, scenic landscapes, and the feeling of being about to discover a unique place.

2. Your first postcard view: Carbajal Valley

The first stop is the Carbajal Valley viewpoint, a landscape of glacial origin very characteristic of Ushuaia's geography: its extensive peat bogs covering much of the terrain are striking, along with its native forests and the Fuegian Andes Mountains. From this point, you can observe the Sierra Alvear with peaks such as Mount Alvear and Mount Krund, as well as the slopes of Mount Bonete and, in the distance, part of the Sierra Sorondo, creating one of the most iconic postcards of Ushuaia and National Route 3.

3. Meet the Siberian huskies

We continue towards Siberianos de Fuego, a winter center and Siberian Husky kennel, home to more than 130 dogs. You will meet the famous protagonists of winter, who keep the mushing culture alive in Ushuaia (in winter they perform the famous dog sledding). In addition to sharing a moment full of puppy love, where you can pet and play with them, you will be able to take the most beautiful photos of the day with them; their lively eyes and contagious energy make it impossible not to be moved.

4. Lunch at Villa Las Cotorras

Midday finds us at Villa Las Cotorras, one of Ushuaia’s historic winter centers, known for its cozy atmosphere and gastronomic tradition. As you enter, the warmth of the firewood and the aroma of the grill already hint at what’s coming. The star of the menu is the all-you-can-eat Fuegian lamb, a classic of local cuisine, served juicy and tender straight from the spit. For those who prefer another option, there are also homemade dishes such as chicken, milanesas, or pasta, always accompanied by fresh salads, one drink included (soft drink or a glass of wine), dessert, and the famous Café del Mono (coffee brewed over the coals).

5. Paso Garibaldi Viewpoint

After lunch at Villa Las Cotorras, we return to National Route No. 3 and head toward the heart of the Fuegian mountain range. As we continue surrounded by landscapes of native forests and peat bogs, the mountains begin to frame the road as we climb to cross the Andes through Garibaldi Pass: the only trans-Andean pass on the island connecting the city of Ushuaia with the rest of Tierra del Fuego. The Garibaldi Pass viewpoint is one of the most famous panoramic spots: from here, you can take in two classic views of Tierra del Fuego. On one side, Lake Escondido, surrounded by forests, and in the distance the imposing Lake Fagnano.

6. Off-Road Section in the Bombilla Natural Reserve

We leave National Route No. 3 and enter the Bombilla Nature Reserve, where one of the most anticipated moments of the day begins: the 4×4 off-road adventure. Here, the road changes completely, with mud tracks, roots, uneven terrain, and rough paths that put our vehicles and the experience of our drivers to the test.

We’ll travel along forest trails where the adrenaline can be felt in every climb, descent, and uneven stretch, reaching areas that would be impossible to access in a conventional vehicle. And at the end of this adventure, the reward awaits: arriving by 4×4 at the shore of Lake Fagnano.

7. Lakeside "Picada" at Lake Fagnano

The grand finale of the day takes place on the shores of Fagnano Lake, also known as Khami by the native Selk'nam people. This immense lake, one of the largest in Argentina, is so impressive in size that it often looks like an inland sea. Facing its waters, you'll have free time to walk, take photos, and share a "picada" with drinks (water, soda, or wine), capping off the experience with the sheer scale of one of Tierra del Fuego.

8. Heading back to your place in Ushuaia:

With hearts full of memories, we head back to your accommodation in Ushuaia. You'll leave with the feeling of having experienced an authentic tour of 4x4 adventure, nature, history, and Patagonian flavors at the End of the World.

The order of activities may vary depending on the day's organization, but the quality of your experience will always be respected.

🚀 Don't miss out on this unique spring experience. Book now and discover the End of the World during its most vibrant season!
