The 4x4 Lakes Classic Sunset in summer excursion brings together the best of off-road adventure in Ushuaia in just a few hours. It is an experience designed to make the most of the afternoon and end the day at Lake Fagnano, after visiting some of Tierra del Fuego's most iconic landscapes.
Aboard our 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles, we leave the city of Ushuaia behind and head north on National Scenic Route 3, which in summer displays all its vitality: green forests, peat bogs, and mountains framing the route. You will visit the Carbajal Valley viewpoint, meet the famous Siberian huskies, and from the Garibaldi Pass viewpoint, you will contemplate the island's most sought-after views: Lake Escondido and Lake Fagnano.
In summer, the 4x4 Lakes Tour Sunset excursion experiences one of its most special moments with the Garibaldi circuit: we descend along an ancient path that connects us with the history of Tierra del Fuego's first woodcutters and leads us to the shores of Lake Escondido, a corner surrounded by forests and nature that feels unique.
The Bombilla Nature Reserve marks the highest adrenaline moment, with the off-road section where our expert drivers and 4x4 trucks make their way through mud, roots, and hidden trails. The day culminates on the shores of Lake Fagnano, one of the largest in Argentina: there you will have time to walk along the coast, take photos, and enjoy snacks with drinks, the perfect finishing touch to close an afternoon of adventure.
The 4x4 Lakes Tour Classic Sunset in Ushuaia – Summer Season experience is the ideal option for those who want to live the essence of 4x4 adventure in Ushuaia, combining unique landscapes and nature at the End of the World.
1. The adventure starts right at your doorstep
We pick you up directly from your accommodation so that from the start you feel a different day beginning, as we travel National Route No. 3 towards the north of the Big Island of Tierra del Fuego. The road itself is part of the experience: mountain curves, scenic landscapes, and the feeling of being about to discover a unique place.
2. First picture-perfect stop: Carbajal Valley
The first stop is the Carbajal Valley viewpoint, a landscape of glacial origin very characteristic of Ushuaia's geography: its extensive peat bogs covering much of the terrain are striking, along with its native forests and the Fuegian Andes Mountains. From this point, you can observe the Sierra Alvear with peaks such as Mount Alvear and Mount Krund, as well as the slopes of Mount Bonete and, in the distance, part of the Sierra Sorondo, creating one of the most iconic postcards of Ushuaia and National Route 3.
3. Up close with the Siberian Huskies:
We continue towards Siberianos de Fuego, a winter center and Siberian Husky kennel, home to more than 130 dogs. You will meet the famous protagonists of winter, who keep the mushing culture alive in Ushuaia (in winter they perform the famous dog sledding). In addition to sharing a moment full of puppy love, where you can pet and play with them, you will be able to take the most beautiful photos of the day with them; their lively eyes and contagious energy make it impossible not to be moved.
4. Paso Garibaldi Viewpoint
We leave the huskies behind and continue along National Route 3 toward the climb up the mountain range. Along the way, the main winter centers of Ushuaia appear, such as Tierra Mayor, Villa Las Cotorras and the Cerro Castor area, the southernmost ski resort in the world. As we advance, the landscape fills with lenga and ñire forests, peat bogs and finally the mountains that accompany the ascent until reaching the Paso Garibaldi viewpoint. This is the island's only trans-Andean pass and one of the most sought-after panoramic points: from here, two classic postcards of Tierra del Fuego can be appreciated. On one side, Lake Escondido, surrounded by forests, and in the background, the imposing Lake Fagnano.
5. Garibaldi Circuit and shores of Lago Escondido
From the Paso Garibaldi viewpoint, we venture into the Garibaldi circuit, descending along the old National Route 3 and the ancient paths opened by woodcutters who worked the lenga wood. You can even still see remains of old sawmills, which connect us with the pioneer era of Tierra del Fuego and its first settlers. The 4x4 adventure adds excitement at every turn until reaching Lake Escondido.
6. Break at Casona de Mary
We'll make a brief stop at the traditional Casona de Mary, a classic rest stop on National Route N°3. It's the ideal place to stretch your legs, use the facilities, and, if you'd like, try a "torta frita" (a local fried pastry) or a hot drink. A simple pause that gives us a breather for the day before we tackle the most adventurous part of the tour.
7. Off-road circuit in the Bombilla Nature Reserve
This is the leg of the journey where our 4x4 trucks are truly put to the test: muddy tracks, roots, uneven ground, and rough paths that would seem impossible for any other vehicle. Alongside our expert drivers, adrenaline and fun combine with the natural surroundings as we navigate through forests and hidden trails until we reach the shore of Lake Fagnano.
8. Lake Fagnano Shores with local snacks included
The grand finale is at the Lake Fagnano shore, one of Argentina's largest and known by the Selk’nam natives as Khami. Its immensity is so impressive that when the wind blows, it looks like an inland sea. You will have time to walk the shore, take photos, and share a snack with drinks (water, soda, or wine) before heading back.
9. Heading back to your place in Ushuaia:
With a heart full of memories, we begin the return to your accommodation in Ushuaia. The feeling is unique: having experienced, in half a day, a 4x4 adventure that has it all: unforgettable landscapes, history of our city's surroundings, and a moment of enjoyment on the shores of Lake Fagnano.
