Live the Full Day 4x4 Lakes Tour in Ushuaia: a complete excursion joining Carbajal Valley, a visit to the Siberian husky kennel, Garibaldi Pass, Lake Escondido, and the vastness of Lake Fagnano with an off-road circuit through unique landscapes. Additionally, you will enjoy a full lunch at the historic Villa Las Cotorras winter center and exclusive activities: a quad bike ride and a hike to an active beaver dam. Throughout the excursion, our expert guide and driver will accompany you with fascinating stories and anecdotes that will make every moment even more special.
The adventure kicks off when we pick you up directly from your accommodation in our all-terrain vehicles Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, specially designed to handle the alternative off-road circuit. We head north on the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, taking the Scenic National Route N°3. Along the way, you'll feel the unique excitement of what's to come: exploring places that can only be reached by living a true adventure.
The first stop is at Carbajal Valley, with its glacial landscape surrounded by peat bogs, native forests, and the Fuegian Andes. We continue to Siberianos del Fuego, a winter center where you will meet the famous Siberian huskies that lead the winter mushing culture in Ushuaia. You will experience a heartwarming encounter with these incredible dogs!
Returning to National Route 3, we head towards the Garibaldi Pass viewpoint, our trans-Andean pass, offering panoramic views of Lakes Escondido and Fagnano. From there, we enter the Garibaldi circuit, descending old paths opened by lumberjacks who worked the lenga wood. As we move past historic sawmills, you'll feel the connection with the effort of those pioneers who forged the history of Tierra del Fuego, until reaching the shores of Lake Escondido.
From Lake Escondido the route takes us to Casona de Mary, where we take a brief break before continuing the adventure. From there, the path leads us to the Bombilla Nature Reserve, where the most fun part of the journey begins: the off-road section. Through mud, forests, and uneven paths, we reach the shores of Lake Fagnano, where you will enjoy time to explore the coastline of one of the largest lakes in Argentina and a snack with that exclusive view.
The journey continues at Villa Las Cotorras, another traditional and historic winter center, where you will enjoy a full lunch with the option of all-you-can-eat classic Fuegian lamb, or choose other delicious options: breaded meat (milanesas), chicken, or homemade pasta.
Full stomach, happy heart! We continue enjoying exclusive activities: a quad bike ride, the adrenaline dose that lets you experience the energy of the Fuegian landscape up close. Additionally, you will have the chance to hike to an active beaver dam, which will show you how these animals modified the environment with their constant work.
At the end of the day, we return to your accommodation in Ushuaia with the feeling of having experienced a full day of 4x4 adventure, history, nature, and Patagonian flavors at the End of the World.
1. The adventure starts right at your doorstep
We'll pick you up right from your accommodation in our comfortable 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles, which are fully prepared for this type of adventure. From the very beginning, you'll feel that a different kind of day is starting as we travel along the Scenic National Route N°3 towards the north of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. The drive itself is part of the experience: winding mountain roads, open landscapes, and the feeling of venturing into a truly unique place.
2. First picture-perfect stop: Carbajal Valley
The first stop is the Carbajal Valley viewpoint, a landscape of glacial origin that is impressive for its vastness and the peat bogs that cover much of the terrain. From this spot, you can see the Sierra Alvear with peaks like Mount Alvear and Mount Krund, as well as the slopes of Cerro Bonete and, in the distance, part of the Sierra Sorondo, creating one of the most iconic postcard views of Ushuaia and National Route N°3.
3. Up close with the Siberian Huskies:
We continue on to Siberianos del Fuego, a winter center home to dozens of Siberian huskies. You'll get to meet these incredible dogs up close, the stars of the mushing culture in Ushuaia. Their lively eyes and contagious energy make it impossible not to be moved by this encounter. A moment filled with tenderness and unforgettable photos.
4. Paso Garibaldi Viewpoint
After leaving Siberianos del Fuego, we get back on National Route N°3. The landscape begins to reveal its forests of "lengas" and "ñires" (native trees) and the vast peat bogs that are characteristic of the island. Along this stretch, some of Ushuaia's most renowned winter resorts also appear, such as Tierra Mayor, Villa Las Cotorras, and the Cerro Castor area—the southernmost ski resort in the world. Further on, we reach Paso Garibaldi, the only cross-Andean pass in Tierra del Fuego. From its viewpoint, you'll enjoy one of the most sought-after views in the region: Escondido Lake, surrounded by forests, and the imposing Fagnano Lake, stretching out until it disappears into the horizon.
5. Garibaldi Circuit and Lake Escondido
From the Paso Garibaldi viewpoint, we enter the Garibaldi circuit, descending through ancient paths opened by woodcutters who worked with lenga wood. Along the way, you can still see vestiges of old sawmills, connecting us with the pioneering era of Tierra del Fuego. The 4x4 adventure adds excitement at every turn, until reaching the shore of Lago Escondido, a corner surrounded by forests.
6. Break at Casona de Mary
Our journey takes us to Casona de Mary, a classic stop on National Route N°3 where we make a brief technical stop. This place, well-known to locals ("fueguinos") and travelers exploring the island, is a resting point amidst the landscape. Here, you'll have a moment to stretch your legs, use the restrooms, and, if you wish, try a hot drink or a tempting "torta frita" (a local fried pastry), before we tackle the most adventurous part of the tour: the off-road leg to Lake Fagnano.
7. Off-road circuit in the Bombilla Nature Reserve
This is the leg of the journey where our 4x4 trucks are truly put to the test: muddy tracks, roots, uneven ground, and rough paths that would seem impossible for any other vehicle. Alongside our expert drivers, adrenaline and fun combine with the natural surroundings as we navigate through forests and hidden trails until we reach the shore of Lake Fagnano.
8. Shore of Lago Fagnano with snack included
In front of one of the largest lakes in our beloved Argentina, you'll have free time to walk along the shore of Lake Fagnano, take photos, and gaze at the lake's infinite horizon. On top of that, you'll share a "picada" (snack platter) with drinks (water, soda, or wine) with the vastness of the water before you and the mountains in the background.
9. Lunch at Villa Las Cotorras
We head back along National Route N°3 to Villa Las Cotorras, a historic winter resort where you'll enjoy a full lunch. The star is the traditional all-you-can-eat Fuegian lamb, but there are also options like homemade pasta, chicken, or "milanesas" (breaded steaks) for those who prefer an alternative. It's the perfect moment to relax, share stories from the trip, and enjoy the local cuisine.
10. ATV fun
With your energy recharged, it's time for a ride on the ATVs (quad bikes). This is the day's dose of adrenaline: you'll feel the thrill of riding along trails surrounded by nature, at just the right speed to have fun and enjoy the power of the Ushuaia landscape. Plus, if you're over 18, you can drive your own ATV! And if not, you can ride as a passenger and enjoy the scenery in complete peace.
11. Hike to an active beaver dam
Before we finish, a short hike takes us to an active beaver lodge. There, you'll see how these animals have transformed the environment by building their dams, and you'll understand the impact they have on the ecosystem. A unique and fascinating moment to connect with nature.
