Experience the most complete 4x4 off-road afternoon in Ushuaia, 4x4 Lakes FULL Sunset, designed for those who want to make the most of their afternoon and live an off-road adventure at the End of the World, combining not only Ushuaia's most iconic landscapes and great lakes, but also the best experiences at a historic winter center: lunch and nature.
Aboard our 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUVs, you will travel along National Route No. 3 heading north, with stops at the Carbajal Valley viewpoint and at Siberianos de Fuego, where you will meet the famous Siberian husky dogs.
At Villa Las Cotorras, a historic winter center in Ushuaia located on Route No. 3, the experience kicks off with the best activities to do in Ushuaia. First, you will enjoy our region's star dish and house specialty: the famous Patagonian lamb roasted on a stake, or if you prefer another option, homemade pasta; all accompanied by fresh salads, a drink (soda or glass of wine), dessert, and the famous café del Mono (made over embers).
And secondly, you'll enjoy two outdoor activities: an ATV (quad bike) ride, your dose of adrenaline to explore the valley, and you'll also have the opportunity to take a hike to strategic panoramic viewpoints, from where you'll be able to gaze at Cerro Krund and Cerro Castor.
After finishing our activities at Villa Las Cotorras, we return to National Route No. 3 to ascend Garibaldi Pass, the only trans-cordilleran pass connecting the city of Ushuaia with the rest of Tierra del Fuego. From the Garibaldi Pass Viewpoint, you will contemplate one of the most famous panoramic views: Lake Escondido, surrounded by forests, and the immense Lake Fagnano in the distance. Additionally, we will descend through the Garibaldi historic circuit, crossing old woodcutters' paths until reaching the shore of Lake Escondido.
In the Bombilla Nature Reserve, you will experience the most anticipated part of the afternoon: the 4×4 off-road stretch, through mud, forests, and paths that only a true expert 4×4 driver can navigate. The destination is the shore of Lake Fagnano, where we will close this 4×4 experience by tasting a cold cut platter with drinks and free time to contemplate one of the most extensive lakes in our country.
If you are looking for a 4×4 excursion in Ushuaia during the afternoon that truly includes everything, 4×4 Lakes FULL Sunset is the most complete option to experience summer at the End of the World.
1. We kick off at midday from your doorstep
We pick you up directly from your accommodation in Ushuaia so that from the start you feel a different day beginning, as we travel along National Route No. 3 towards the north of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. The road itself is part of the experience: mountain curves, scenic landscapes, and the feeling of discovering unique places with peat bogs, lenga and ñire forests, and the mountains that define the Ushuaia landscape.
2. First picture-perfect stop: Carbajal Valley
The first stop is the Carbajal Valley viewpoint, a landscape of glacial origin very characteristic of Ushuaia's geography: its extensive peat bogs covering much of the terrain are striking, along with its native forests and the Fuegian Andes Mountains. From this point, you can observe the Sierra Alvear with peaks such as Mount Alvear and Mount Krund, as well as the slopes of Mount Bonete and, in the distance, part of the Sierra Sorondo, creating one of the most iconic postcards of Ushuaia and National Route 3.
3. Up close with the Siberian Huskies:
We continue towards Siberianos de Fuego, a winter center and Siberian Husky kennel, home to more than 130 dogs. You will meet the famous protagonists of winter, who keep the mushing culture alive in Ushuaia (in winter they perform the famous dog sledding). In addition to sharing a moment full of puppy love, where you can pet and play with them, you will be able to take the most beautiful photos of the day with them; their lively eyes and contagious energy make it impossible not to be moved.
4. Lunch at Villa Las Cotorras
Around noon, we arrive at Villa Las Cotorras, one of Ushuaia's historic winter centers, known for its cozy atmosphere and culinary tradition. As you step inside, the warmth of the firewood and the aroma from the grill give you a taste of what's to come. The star of the menu is the all-you-can-eat Patagonian lamb, un clásico de la cocina local que se sirve jugoso y tierno, directo de la estaca. Para quienes prefieran another option, también hay platos caseros como chicken, milanesas or pasta, always served with fresh salads, a included drink (soda or a glass of wine), dessert and the famous café del Mono (un café hecho a las brasas).
5. ATV Adrenaline Rush
With renewed energy, it's time to hop on the quad bikes and add the first dose of adrenaline of the day: you will feel the excitement of moving through paths surrounded by nature between the forest and the valley, with just the right speed to have fun and enjoy the Ushuaia landscape. Also, if you are over 18, you will have your turn to drive the ATV! (Keep in mind that the quad bikes are two-seaters, meaning shared driving: two passengers ride on one ATV and halfway through the route, they switch drivers, without exception). And if there are minors or you prefer not to drive, you can always go as a passenger and enjoy the scenery with total peace of mind.
6. Hike through the valley
The afternoon continues with a short walk through the valley that will lead us to discover strategic panoramic viewpoints, from where you'll be able to appreciate Cerro Krund and Cerro Castor. It's a different kind of moment within the adventure: a chance to walk, explore, and be amazed by the vastness of the surroundings, the forest, the valley, and the pure air you'll breathe there, connecting you with the nature of Ushuaia.
7. Garibaldi Pass Viewpoint
After finishing the activities at Villa Las Cotorras, we return to National Route No. 3 heading towards the heart of the Fuegian Andes. As we move forward, the landscape fills with lenga and ñire forests, peat bogs, and finally the mountains that accompany the ascent until reaching the Garibaldi Pass viewpoint. This is the only trans-cordilleran pass on the island and one of the most sought-after panoramic points: from here, two classic postcards of Tierra del Fuego can be appreciated. On one side, Lake Escondido, surrounded by forests, and in the background, the imposing Lake Fagnano.
8. Garibaldi Circuit and Lake Escondido
From the Paso Garibaldi viewpoint, we enter the Garibaldi circuit, descending along the old National Route 3 and ancient paths opened by woodcutters who worked the lenga wood, an activity that marked the first productive developments in Tierra del Fuego. It is still possible to find remains of old sawmills, traces of the effort of those pioneers who worked in extreme conditions, turning the tour into an experience where 4x4 adventure joins the memory of the region, until reaching Lake Escondido.
9. A Break at Casona de Mary
The path leads us to Casona de Mary, a classic rest stop along National Route 3, where we make a brief technical stop. This place, well-known by locals and travelers roaming the island, is a resting point in the middle of the landscape. Here you will have a moment to stretch your legs, use the restrooms and, if you wish, try a hot drink or a tempting "torta frita," before facing the most adventurous part of the tour: the off-road section towards Lake Fagnano.
10. Off-Road Adventure in Bombilla Nature Reserve
After the break, the most exciting part of the day arrives: the off-road section in the Bombilla Nature Reserve. In this stretch, our 4x4 vehicles are put to the test: mud tracks, roots, uneven terrain and irregular paths that seem impossible for any other vehicle. Together with our expert drivers, adrenaline and fun combine with the natural environment, crossing forests and hidden trails until reaching the shore of Lake Fagnano.
11. Shores of Lake Fagnano with snacks included
The grand finale of this 4x4 experience takes place on the shores of Lake Fagnano, also known as Khami by the Selk'nam indigenous people. This immense lake, one of the largest in Argentina, is striking for its size and, when the wind blows, it often resembles an inland sea. Facing its waters with the mountains in the background, you will have free time to walk, take photos, and enjoy a snack platter of cold cuts with drinks (water, soda, or wine), closing the 4x4 experience with the magnitude of one of Tierra del Fuego's most iconic landscapes.
12. Return to your accommodation in Ushuaia
As the day comes to an end, we begin the return trip to your accommodation in Ushuaia around 8:00 PM. You'll be left with the feeling of having experienced a complete tour: 4x4 adventure, nature, history, and Patagonian flavors, capping off the experience at the End of the World in the late afternoon.
