🌞🚂🌲🐧 National Park + End of the World Train + Penguin Colony Navigation Combo

Have only a few days and want to experience the best of Ushuaia in summer?

If you want to make the most of your day in Ushuaia, this package is for you. In one incredible day, you will visit the most iconic landscapes of Tierra del Fuego during one of the brightest and most active seasons: summer, when days are long, the weather is milder, and nature is in full splendor.

🌲🚂 In the morning: National Park and End of the World Train (approx. 08:00 AM)

In the morning, you will explore Tierra del Fuego National Park, the only national park in Argentina that combines forest, sea, and mountains in one place. You can't miss its iconic spots: Lapataia Bay (the famous end of National Route No. 3), Ensenada Zaratiegui (where the Beagle Channel meets the park and the last post office of Correo Argentino is located), and Lake Roca (also called Acigami by our indigenous Yámana people).

Additionally, you will travel on the famous End of the World Train and relive in time and space the last 7 km of the original route taken daily by the former prisoners of the Ushuaia Prison, those who marked the origins of this southernmost city in the world. Aboard the “prisoners' train,” you will traverse our historical landscapes through forests, valleys, and rivers, where remnants of that past century can still be seen.

🐧 In the afternoon: Penguin Colony Navigation (approx. 02:30 PM)

And in the afternoon, the finishing touch: the penguin colony navigation through the Beagle Channel, where you will see the iconic spots of the Beagle Channel with the great bonus of observing Magellanic and Gentoo penguins on Martillo Island during the peak season. Aboard our modern and comfortable catamarans, you will enjoy an unforgettable journey that combines history, wildlife, and spectacular views: Bird Island, home to cormorants, skuas, terns, and other seabirds; Sea Lion Island, where you can watch one and two-hair sea lions resting and playing among the rocks; and the famous Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse, the iconic lighthouse with red and white structures, which became a symbol of Ushuaia after being mistakenly called the End of the World Lighthouse.

YOUR DAY, STEP-BY-STEP:

1. We begin the adventure from your accommodation

Imagine starting the day with the excitement of knowing that you are going to live the very essence of the End of the World. We pick you up directly from your accommodation to begin an unforgettable experience through the most iconic places and landscapes of Ushuaia: Tierra del Fuego National Park and the historical experience of the End of the World Train.

2. You will experience the magic of the End of the World Train

You will live the historical experience of the End of the World Train, reliving in time and space a unique journey through forests and valleys, on the same route taken by the former Ushuaia prisoners:

  • 🛤️ End of the World Station: a journey through time:

You will discover how the southernmost train on the planet when arriving at the End of the World Station, see the historic engine room and explore the photo gallery that tells the history of the railroad.

  • 🚂 All aboard the End of the World Train!:

You will board the famous "prisoners' train”, covering the last 7 kilometers of the original route that the old prisoners traveled daily from the Ushuaia Prison to the forest of what is now the Tierra del Fuego National Park. During the trip, you'll relive those stories while gazing at forests and mountains that hold secrets of past times. Plus, you'll see historical vestiges of the work of those prisoners, who were responsible for many of the fundamental constructions to Ushuaia until the middle of the last century.

  • 🏞️ La Macarena Station:

The place where the locomotives are supplied with water. There, you'll enjoy a unique time of absolute serenity at a viewpoint with incredible views: the beautiful Macarena Waterfall, the wide Pipo River Valley, Cerro Guanaco, Cerro La Portada and the Mount Susana before the whistle invites us back on board to continue the journey on the famous End of the World Train.

3. You will discover Tierra del Fuego National Park

After your journey on the historic Prisoners' Train, our expert guide and driver will be waiting for you at the National Park Station to take you to discover Tierra del Fuego National Park, the only national park in Argentina that combines forest, sea, and mountains in one place. On this adventure, you will visit its iconic spots:

  • Lapataia Bay: the end of National Route No. 3 and the Pan-American Highway, which connects Ushuaia with Alaska. A symbolic spot and one of the most sought-after photos for travelers: you will take the iconic picture with the sign, an internationally recognized symbol.

  • Lake Roca / Acigami: a lake of glacial origin shared with our Chilean neighbors. Its original name, Acigami, comes from the Yaghan people and means “elongated basket,” referring to its shape. You will contemplate one of the largest and most beautiful water mirrors in the national park, famous for its absolute calm and the imposing mountains and forests surrounding it.

  • Laguna Verde: An emerald-colored lagoon surrounded by forests, a place that attracts travelers for the singular beauty of its waters and its views of the Cerro Cóndor, natural border between Argentina and Chile. A perfect corner to relax, breathe fresh air, and enjoy the natural essence of Ushuaia.

  • Ensenada Zaratiegui Bay: with its historic pier, Ensenada Zaratiegui Bay is recognized for its panoramic views of the Beagle Channel, Redonda Island, and its flag tree forest. Additionally, you will have the unique opportunity to visit the southernmost post office of Correo Argentino.

4. Break in the city center

At noon, we return to the center of Ushuaia (approximately 01:30 PM). We will drop you off at our office (Av. San Martin 775), a few blocks from the port, where you will have some time to have lunch or get ready before the next excursion: the penguin colony navigation.

5. In the afternoon: you will sail through the incredible Beagle Channel toward the Penguin Colony

The afternoon invites you to discover Ushuaia from the water, sailing through the legendary Beagle Channel and getting close to some of the most iconic landscapes and wildlife of the End of the World.

From the Ushuaia Tourist Port, the vessel sails into these historic waters, explored centuries ago by Charles Darwin and Fitz Roy themselves, to give you unique views and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

During the navigation you are going to enjoy:

  • 🐦 Bird Island: a true natural bird sanctuary where you will observe different marine species native to the Beagle Channel, like imperial and rock cormorants, gulls, skuas and, depending on the season, albatrosses and petrels. From the boat, you will see them flying, perching on the islets, and living together in this small corner of the sea.

  • 🏝️ Sea Lion Island: home to colonies of one and two-hair sea lions. You will be able to see them resting on the rocks, swimming around the island, or interacting with each other, in a natural setting that allows you to appreciate their behavior up close and respectfully.

  • ☀️ Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse: the undisputed icon of the Beagle Channel and one of the most recognized images of Ushuaia. Built in the early 20th century, this lighthouse is still in operation and marks navigation in these southern waters. It is popularly —although incorrectly— known as the Lighthouse at the End of the World, and it is the most photographed point of the tour: you haven't been to Ushuaia if you don't have your photo with the lighthouse!

  • 🐧 Martillo Island: undoubtedly the most awaited moment of the navigation. From the vessel, you will spot magellanic penguins and also gentoo penguins, walking along the shore or entering and leaving the water. All the sighting is done without disembarking, respecting their natural habitat and allowing you to live a unique experience in one of the most special corners of the Beagle Channel. Here we will be for about 40 minutes, while our captain turns the catamaran so you can see them from different angles.

After our Beagle Channel navigation experience, we return to the Ushuaia tourist port, leaving you with the unique feeling of having lived two of Ushuaia's unmissable classics in a single day. From the port, you will be able to continue enjoying the evening in the city or return to your accommodation at your own pace.

The order of activities may vary depending on the day's organization, but the quality of your experience will always be respected.

🚀 Don't miss this unique experience in summer. Book now and discover the End of the World in its best version!
