The Lagos Convencional in Ushuaia excursion is ideal if you want to see the Great Lakes of Tierra del Fuego in a comfortable and peaceful way, visiting the highlights of the interior of Tierra del Fuego island during the summer, without off-road sections.
The experience begins when we pick you up directly from your accommodation in Ushuaia. From there, we head towards National Route No. 3, north of Ushuaia. Our first stop is the great Carbajal Valley, a glacial valley with its characteristic peat bogs, native nothofagus forests, and the Andes Mountains in the background.
We continue along National Scenic Route No. 3, crossing our mountain landscapes and passing the Ushuaia winter centers, notably the famous Cerro Castor, the southernmost ski center in the world. We will make a technical stop at a winter center, where you can get out, walk, and enjoy the scenery in total tranquility. If you would like to have lunch in this unique place as part of the itinerary, you can choose your menu when we return from the lakes, as lunch is an optional add-on that you can pay for yourself.
We continue our journey and begin to ascend the famous Garibaldi Pass, the trans-Andean pass that connects the city of Ushuaia with the other cities of Tierra del Fuego, being our only land connection. We will reach one of the most important panoramic points of the tour: the Garibaldi Pass Viewpoint, which offers panoramic views of Lake Escondido, nestled between forests and mountains, and the immense Lake Fagnano in the background.
We leave the Viewpoint and Garibaldi Pass behind to head to the shores of Lake Fagnano itself, one of the largest and longest lakes in our Argentina. You will have time to walk along the shore, take photos, and enjoy this unique landscape. Depending on the day, a visit to Estancia La Carmen may also be included (the entrance fee to the ranch is paid separately), adding an insight into the local rural history and another angle of Lake Fagnano.
Before starting the return to Ushuaia, we go back to the winter center, where those who wish and have chosen the option can have an additional lunch (the menu is paid directly at the location). Then, we begin the return to the city.
Conventional Lakes Tour in summer is a perfect excursion for those looking to see the lakes of Ushuaia in comfort, enjoy the most representative landscapes of Ushuaia, and make the most of summer in the southernmost city in the world, without physical demands and with a route accessible to everyone.
1. Starting the experience right from your doorstep
Imagine starting the morning with the comfort of knowing that a day full of incredible landscapes and unique moments awaits you. We pick you up from your accommodation to begin this relaxed adventure, enjoying the best of the End of the World.
2. You will discover the incredible Carbajal Valley
You will discover the famous Carbajal Valley, one of Ushuaia's most important panoramic points. From here, you will contemplate wide views of Patagonian lenga and ñire forests, vast stretches of Tierra del Fuego's characteristic peat bogs, and the imposing Andes Mountains, with the Vinciguerra Glacier in the background. From this point, you can also observe the Sierra Alvear, with peaks like Mount Alvear and Mount Krund, as well as the slopes of Cerro Bonete and, in the distance, part of the Sierra Sorondo, creating one of the most representative postcards of Ushuaia and National Route No. 3. An ideal place to take photos, breathe fresh air, and connect with the natural landscape of the End of the World.
3. Technical stop at one of Ushuaia's winter centers
We will make a short technical stop at a winter center on National Route No. 3, where you can get out, stretch your legs, and enjoy the surroundings. At this time, those who wish can pre-select their lunch menu for the return from the lakes tour. Lunch is optional and is paid directly at the winter center, not being included in the excursion price. After this break, we continue the journey along National Route No. 3, crossing the winter centers area toward the heart of Tierra del Fuego island.
4. You will be amazed at the Garibaldi Pass Viewpoint
We resume National Route No. 3. The landscape reveals its native lenga and ñire forests and the vast peat bogs that characterize the island. In this section, the Cerro Castor area appears, the southernmost ski center in the world. We begin to ascend the route between the mountains through the famous Garibaldi Pass, the only trans-Andean pass in Tierra del Fuego and the road that connects the city of Ushuaia with the rest of the island. From the Garibaldi Pass Viewpoint, you will enjoy one of the most sought-after views in the region: Lake Escondido, surrounded by forests, and the imposing Lake Fagnano, stretching until it disappears on the horizon.
5. You will be amazed by the immensity of Lake Fagnano
You will arrive at the imposing Lake Fagnano, also called Khami by the Selk’nam (Ona) people, one of the indigenous peoples of Tierra del Fuego. It is the largest lake in Tierra del Fuego, which we share with our Chilean brothers, and one of the most extensive in our Argentina. Here the landscape opens up completely: mountains, forest, and water meet in one place, allowing you to grasp the immensity of the island. You will have time to walk peacefully along the shore, take photos, and enjoy the surroundings at a key point of the tour where you truly feel the magnitude of Ushuaia's Great Lakes.
6. Technical stop: we have lunch at the winter center (additional option)
On the way back from Lake Fagnano, we return to the Ushuaia winter center on National Route No. 3 for lunch if you chose to, featuring the classic all-you-can-eat Fuegian lamb, one of Ushuaia's most representative gastronomic experiences. There are also more classic options like chicken, schnitzel, or homemade pasta. If you preferred not to have lunch, you can use this time to explore the winter center, relax, and enjoy the surroundings before continuing the return to Ushuaia.
7. We return to Ushuaia with great memories
We begin the return to Ushuaia traveling along National Route No. 3 once again, while you look back on everything experienced during the day. We drop you off in the city center or at your accommodation, with the feeling of having discovered the Great Lakes of Tierra del Fuego and some of the most representative landscapes of the End of the World.
