The Classic 4x4 Lakes in Ushuaia excursion concentrates the best of off-road adventure at the End of the World in a few hours during the afternoon, in the brightest season of the year. Aboard our 4x4 trucks, you will travel along National Scenic Route No. 3, with stops at the Valle Carbajal viewpoint, Siberianos del Fuego, the Paso Garibaldi viewpoint, and the adrenaline of off-road in the Garibaldi Circuit and the Bombilla Nature Reserve, with a perfect closing on the shore of Lago Fagnano: a snack with drinks.
The journey begins when we pick you up at your accommodation in Ushuaia in our Toyota Land Cruiser Prado all-terrain trucks, prepared to clear the way through mountain, mud, and forest sections. The trip along National Route No. 3 is already a preview of what is to come: vast lenga and ñire forests and the mountains that mark the island's profile.
The first stop is at the Valle Carbajal viewpoint, a landscape of glacial origin that surprises with its extensive peat plains and the backdrop of the Ushuaia mountains. From the viewpoint, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the vastness of the valley and take the first photos of the day.
Next, we continue to Siberianos del Fuego, a dog kennel where you will meet the famous Siberian huskies, icons of winter in Ushuaia. This encounter is one of the most special moments of the excursion: you will be able to see them up close, learn how they live, and feel the energy and friendliness they transmit.
The adventure continues along National Route No. 3, where you will see the location of the Ushuaia winter centers, such as Cerro Castor, until reaching the Paso Garibaldi viewpoint, the only trans-Andean pass connecting the city of Ushuaia with the rest of Tierra del Fuego. From there, you will contemplate one of the most sought-after views: Lago Escondido, surrounded by forests and mountains, and the immense Lago Fagnano in the distance, stretching until it disappears on the horizon. An ideal place to enjoy the magnitude of Ushuaia's most representative landscapes.
In summer, the excursion experiences one of its most special moments with the Garibaldi circuit: a descent through ancient forest paths that connects us with the history of the first woodcutters and takes us to the shore of Lago Escondido, a corner surrounded by forests and nature that feels unique.
We will enjoy a brief stop at the traditional Casona de Mary, a classic on National Route No. 3, before facing the most exciting part of the day: the off-road circuit in the Bombilla Nature Reserve. That is where the 4x4s show their full potential alongside our expert drivers, crossing mud tracks, roots, and uneven paths in an experience full of adrenaline and fun.
The day ends on the shore of Lago Fagnano, where you can walk along its immense coastline, take photos, and share a snack with drinks, enjoying a relaxed ending after a morning of pure adventure.
We begin the return to your accommodation in Ushuaia, with the satisfaction of having experienced the best of a 4x4 adventure in Ushuaia in a single morning.
1. The adventure starts right at your doorstep
We'll pick you up right from your accommodation in our comfortable 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles, which are fully prepared for this type of adventure. From the very beginning, you'll feel that a different kind of day is starting as we travel along the Scenic National Route N°3 towards the north of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. The drive itself is part of the experience: winding mountain roads, open landscapes, and the feeling of venturing into a truly unique place.
2. First picture-perfect stop: Carbajal Valley
The first stop is at Valle Carbajal, a landscape of glacial origin surrounded by peat bogs and native forests. From its viewpoint, you will have one of the most representative views of the Fuegian Andes. It is the ideal moment to take the first photos of the day and begin connecting with the vastness of the surroundings.
3. Up close with the Siberian Huskies:
We continue on to Siberianos del Fuego, a winter center home to dozens of Siberian huskies. You'll get to meet these incredible dogs up close, the stars of the mushing culture in Ushuaia. Their lively eyes and contagious energy make it impossible not to be moved by this encounter. A moment filled with tenderness and unforgettable photos.
4. Paso Garibaldi Viewpoint
Leaving the huskies behind, we continue along National Route N°3 towards the mountain range. Along the way, you'll see Ushuaia's main winter resorts, such as Tierra Mayor, Villa Las Cotorras, and the Cerro Castor area, the southernmost ski resort in the world. As we ascend, the landscape fills with forests of "lengas" and "ñires" (native trees), peat bogs, and mountains that accompany us on our journey to the Paso Garibaldi viewpoint. This is the island's only cross-Andean pass and one of its most sought-after panoramic spots. From here, you can admire two classic postcard views of Tierra del Fuego: on one side, Escondido Lake, surrounded by forests, and in the background, the imposing Fagnano Lake.
5. Garibaldi Circuit and shores of Lago Escondido
From the Paso Garibaldi viewpoint, we enter the Garibaldi circuit, descending through ancient paths opened by woodcutters who worked with lenga wood. Along the way, you can still see vestiges of old sawmills, connecting us with the pioneering era of Tierra del Fuego. The 4x4 adventure adds excitement at every turn, until reaching the shore of Lago Escondido, a corner surrounded by forests.
6. Break at Casona de Mary
Our journey takes us to Casona de Mary, a classic stop on National Route N°3 where we make a brief technical stop. This place, well-known to locals ("fueguinos") and travelers exploring the island, is a resting point amidst the landscape. Here, you'll have a moment to stretch your legs, use the restrooms, and, if you wish, try a hot drink or a tempting "torta frita" (a local fried pastry), before we tackle the most adventurous part of the tour: the off-road leg to Lake Fagnano.
7. Off-road circuit in the Bombilla Nature Reserve
This is the leg of the journey where our 4x4 trucks are truly put to the test: muddy tracks, roots, uneven ground, and rough paths that would seem impossible for any other vehicle. Alongside our expert drivers, adrenaline and fun combine with the natural surroundings as we navigate through forests and hidden trails until we reach the shore of Lake Fagnano.
8. Shore of Lago Fagnano with snack included
In front of one of the largest lakes in our beloved Argentina, you'll have free time to walk along the shore of Lake Fagnano, take photos, and gaze at the lake's infinite horizon. On top of that, you'll share a "picada" (snack platter) with drinks (water, soda, or wine) with the vastness of the water before you and the mountains in the background.
